Ramanathan's inspiration came from his extensive experience working with musical legends like Ilaiyaraja, A.R. Rahman, Vidyasagar, Harris Jayaraj, and S.P. Jayachandran in Malayalam cinema. Witnessing the late Viji Manuel, a renowned pianist from Chennai, perform Indian instruments on the keyboard sparked the idea. Film musicians have long used keyboards to mimic instruments like the flute, sitar, violin, shehnai, and kanoon in countless movies. This innovative approach naturally led Ramanathan to incorporate similar technology into classical concerts, recreating wind instruments on a digital wind synthesizer, making the sounds more authentic than a reproduction on the keyboard.
Ramanathan's background as a violinist, singer, and saxophonist has equipped him with the skills to turn the wind controller into a multi-instrumental wand of wizardry. By using the Magic Sax, he brings the magic of Indian instruments to life, creating an auditory spectacle that is both mesmerizing and enchanting.
